Spinners Drop Heart Breaker in Extras

Lowell falls 4-3 in 12 innings despite solid pitching

By Lowell Spinners | July 15, 2017 10:18 PM ET

Lowell struck first after Garrett Benge drove in a pair with a line drive single in the top of the first. Nick Hamilton and Frankie Rios came in to score to make it 2-0 early.

Williamsport brought it to within one with an RBI single off Enmanuel De Jesus in the bottom of the third. De Jesus would allow the tying run in the bottom of the fifth. In 4.2 innings of work De Jesus struck out a pair, walked one, and allowed six hits.

With a runner on third in the top of the sixth, a wild pitch to Benge brought home Brett Netzer to put the Spinners up 3-2.

Jared Oliver came in to relieve De Jesus in the fifth and threw 2.1 innings of relief, allowing the tying run in the bottom of the seventh.

The game was sent into extras and reliver Joan Martinez was near perfect (one hit, one walk) in three innings of relief.

Unfortunately the offense could not produce a run and Mitchell Osnowitz gave up an RBI single in the bottom of the 12th to win the game for Williamsport. It marked the third consecutive loss for the Spinners.

The Spinners wrap up the series in Williamsport on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 5:05 p.m. as they look to avoid the sweep. Dakota Smith takes the hill for Lowell before they return home for a seven-game home stand starting Monday.
