Spokane, WASH. - The red-hot Spokane Indians continued their winning ways with a 2-1 victory over the Eugene Emeralds on Dollars in Your Dog Night presented by Mirabeau Park Hotel and KISS 96.1. 4,763 Indians fans saw Spokane pick up its sixth-straight victory and ninth win in the last ten games.
In a low-scoring game, the long ball provided all the offense for both teams. In the second inning, Eugene's Austin Filiere smacked a solo home run to put the Emeralds ahead, 1-0. It was the third baseman's third home run of the season.
The score remained 1-0 up until the bottom of the sixth inning. Yonny Hernandez led off the inning with a walk, which proved costly. The next batter, Miguel Aparicio, sent the first pitch he saw to the Coors Light Caboose. The two-run home run was the centerfielder's first at Avista Stadium and proved to be the difference-maker on Thursday night.
Tyree Thompson had arguably his best outing of the season. In six innings of work, the New Orleans native struck out five Eugene batters while allowing just one earned run. Thompson pick up his third win of the year, and his second in as many starts.
Alex Speas had a strong relief appearance for Spokane. The 2016 second round pick pitched a pair of shutout innings with two strikeouts. Lucas Jacobsen came in with two outs in the ninth inning to pick up his first save of the season.
