Avista Stadium Named Northwest League Field of the Year

August 28, 2012
Spokane, WA - The Northwest League of Professional Baseball announced today that Avista Stadium has been named N.W.L. Field of the Year for 2012. Spokane has now won the award eight years in a row and fourteen of the last sixteen seasons.

"It's a tremendous honor to receive this award from the Northwest League," said Indians Head Groundskeeper Tony Lee. "Our grounds crew worked hard to maintain the best field for the players, fans, and all users of Avista Stadium."

The award is given annually to the team that has the best playing surface and maintains the highest quality field throughout the 76-game season as voted on by N.W.L. managers and coaches.

"I've played on a lot of nice baseball fields in my career but there's nothing that can compare to the playing surface at Avista Stadium," said outfielder Royce Bolinger. "We're fortunate to be able to play at such a great stadium and we definitely have a home field advantage here."

In addition to the NWL Field of the Year, Tony Lee will also be eligible for the Short Season 'A' Sports Turf Manager of the Year award, which he won in 2001, at the 2012 Baseball Winter Meetings in Nashville, TN.
