Indians Nominated for Postseason Awards

Team recognized for community involvement and support of military
October 8, 2016

SPOKANE, WA - The 2016 season might be over on the field but the accolades keep rolling in for the Spokane Indians and their staff. The team has been nominated recently by their NWL cohorts for a number of awards including the John H. Johnson President's Award and Charles K. Murphy Patriot Award. Additionally, longtime employee Lesley DeHart has been named the NWL Woman Executive of the Year, and with this award, is nominated for the Rawlings Woman Executive of the Year.

Since 1976, the Rawlings Woman Executive of the Year Award has been presented annually to a woman who has made outstanding contributions to her club, league, or baseball.

"It's a great honor to be nominated for these awards," said DeHart, who serves as the team's Director of Business Operations. "I love being able to work in baseball and appreciate that my peers have recognized me for my contributions to the sport."

The John H. Johnson President's Award honors a "complete" baseball franchise that has demonstrated franchise stability, and significant contributions to its community, league and the baseball industry. The Charles K. Murphy Patriot Award is presented to a club for outstanding support of and engagement with the Unites States Armed Forces and veterans, both at the ballpark and in the community.

The Indians have a long history of community involvement including their annual Pitch for the Cure, 4th of Family Fun Run, and Ride the Bases events. The team also has a strong relationship with Fairchild Air Force Base, with proceeds from the Military Appreciation Night Silent Auction supporting the Fairchild Morale Fund, and has partnered with the Wounded Warrior project to raise funds for veterans since 2011.

The awards will be announced at the 2016 Baseball Winter Meetings in December.
