Indians Offense Erupts in Victory over AquaSox

Spokane's playoff hopes take step forward with win
August 29, 2013

SPOKANE, Wash. - Thanks to a season-high 12 runs and 16 hits, and an outstanding performance from second baseman Evan Van Hoosier, the Spokane Indians clobbered the first-place Everett AquaSox 12-3 in front of 5,455 fans on Alaska Airline Free Flight Sweepstakes presented by Alaska Airlines, 93.7 The Mountain and SportsRadio 1510 KGA.

In the second inning with the bases loaded, Jamie Jarmon belted a two-run double to centerfield to start the offensive onslaught. Gabe Roa, Jordan Akins and Joe Jackson all collected RBIs in the inning. Jackson began the inning with a single before adding in an RBI double in his second plate appearance.

But the Spokane offense wasn't done. In the fifth inning, the Indians went on another offensive tear as the team scored five runs in the inning. The big hit coming off of Van Hoosier's bat: a two-RBI triple where Van Hoosier also scored on a throwing error. The Indians second baseman went 3 for 3 with two RBI and two walks.

Jackson, Van Hoosier and Roa all had three hits on the night, one hit away from lighting up the IHOP sign out in left-center field.

Everett starter Lars Huijer, who was second in the Northwest League with a 2.20 ERA before the game (Spokane's Kelvin Vasquez is first with 2.04), allowed a season-high seven runs. It was the first time this season that Huijer didn't pitch past the second inning.

Ryne Slack started for Spokane and pitched 4.1 innings while striking out four and allowing two runs. Abel De Los Santos and Travis Dean combined for the remaining 4.2 innings, striking out a combined four batters total.
