Indians Turn Rally into Rout in Victory

Spokane needs one win to clinch first postseason berth since 2010
July 20, 2014

Spokane, WA - The magic number is down to one.

Zach Cone hit his seventh home run, Marcus Greene hit home three base runners, and the Spokane Indians rallied to a 12-3 victory over the Everett AquaSox on Saturday night 12-3 in front of 6,596 fans at Avista Stadium to inch closer to its first playoff berth since 2010. Tonight's game was presented by S-R Media/The Spokesman-Review, KREM 2-TV and 98.9 KKZX. The Indians need just one more win in the first half to clinch its first playoff berth since 2010.

Cone, who finished 3-for-4 with three extra-base hits, three runs and three RBI, hit his league-leading seventh home run to push the Indians' lead to 6-3 in the fifth inning. Cone is hitting .316 with six hits, three homers and eight RBI in his past five games.

In the sixth, Greene stepped into the box with two runners on base and smashed a triple to center field to score Saquan Johnson and Seth Spivey. Greene also had an RBI single earlier in the game. The Moreno Valley, Calif., native leads the Northwest League with an on-base percentage of .473.

Starter Nick Gardewine gave up one three-run home run in the second inning, but quickly settled down after his offense gave him some support. After the homer, Gardewine issued just one walk in the next four innings to set the bullpen up for an easy finish. Jason Hoppe and Nick Dignacco didn't allow a hit in the final three frames.

Fernando Vivili had a two-RBI double, Juremi Profar added a RBI bloop single and Jose Trevino hit a sacrifice fly to account for the other Spokane runs. Spivey drew a bases-loaded walk as well.

The Spokane Indians host the Everett AquaSox tomorrow, Sunday, July 20th, with a special start time of 3:30 PM, for Create-Your-Own-Cheer-Sign Day Game, presented by Rockwood Health System, KISS 98.1, 590 KQNT and The Family Guide.
