Spokane Wins Fourth Straight to Begin Year

Indians fall behind early, come back to snag best start since 1997
June 17, 2014

Spokane, WA - Marcus Greene launched a two-run home run, Eduard Pinto collected two more hits and Reed Garrett earned a win in his professional debut as the Spokane Indians topped Eugene Emeralds 6-4 on Caught Stealing Sweepstakes presented by Papa John's Pizza and Hot 96.9. The Indians are 4-0 for the first time since 1997.

Spokane faced its first deficit of the season as Eugene jumped on top 2-0 early. But a passed ball and a wild pitch scored Jamie Jarmon from second, Greene launched his first home run of the season to push the Indians ahead for good. Greene finished 1-for-3 raising his average to .250 on the season.

Fernando Vivili, who is highly touted for his raw power, showed Spokane a glimpse of what's to come. The Spokane first baseman missed a three-run shot by only a few feet after he blasted a single off the left field wall. Juremi Profar collected his first RBI of the season after he doubled to center field to score Pinto. Alberto Triunfel collected an RBI as well, his fourth of the year.

Garrett, making his professional debut, earned the victory after pitching five innings, allowing two runs and striking out five Emeralds. The Indians bullpen performed well, with John Fasola earning his first save of the season ending the game with a strikeout.

The Indians return home tomorrow, Tuesday, June 17th for the final game of the season-opening five-game series against the Emeralds. Tomorrow will be Taco Ball Toss presented by Taco Bell, 103.9 BOB FM and 790 The Eagle. Test your arm and support the Boys & Girls Club at the same time! Purchase "taco balls" during the game and throw them at targets on the field.
