Sports Business Journal Names Spokane No. 9 Minor League Market

Third year in a row Spokane has made Top 10
August 28, 2013

SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane has been named the No. 9 Minor League Market in the United States by Street & Smith's Sports Business Journal. There were a total of 235 markets across 47 minor league teams in the conducted study.

The Top Minor League Market rankings score is computed using three category-specific scores: tenure rank, attendance and economic rank. Tenure rank, which accounts for 66 percent of each market's grade, benefits teams that have maintained a presence in the community since its inception. Attendance, 20 percent of the grade, is based off of total attendance and overall percentage of seats filled over a five-year period. Economic rank looks into unemployment rates, population and income.

It was the third straight year that Spokane has been placed in the top 10, and the Spokane Indians are a big reason why.

Currently, the Indians are on pace to lead the Northwest League in attendance for an unprecedented 15th straight season. The Indians have three home games remaining (this upcoming Wednesday through Friday), and have averaged 5,011 fans throughout the first 34 openings of the season.

With Avista Stadium's recent renovations this past year, the Indians were able to supply jobs to 265 gameday employees as well as 25 front office staff members. Currently, the Indians have the highest seasonal employment rate in Spokane for ages 16-25.

Spokane returns home tonight, Wednesday, August 28th, to host the Everett AquaSox for three games in the final homestand of the 2013 regular season. Join the Spokane Indians on Wednesday for Raining Money Night presented by The General Store, KHQ and NOW 105.7. Immediately after the game the Spokane Indians will drop 2,000 $1 bills out of a helicopter to 30 lucky fans, as they race to see who can collect the most money! Fans can sign up at the game that night for a chance to be one of the 30 contestants.

The Spokane Indians would like to thank all of our fans for their support this season. The Indians are the Short Season Class "A" affiliate for the Texas Rangers.
