TOP PERFORMERS

  • Luis Asuncion went 2-for-4, including the game-tying solo blast in the sixth. It's his first long ball since July 16 and his first multi-hit game since July 31.
  • Kellen Strahm followed it up with what proved to be the game-winning homer, his fourth of the season. In his first game in a week, the former San Jose State Spartan also made an incredible running catch to save a run in center field.
  • Billy Layne Jr. picked up his second victory of the season after four scoreless innings out of the bullpen. He gave up just one hit while striking out three.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Spokane pitchers retired 19 consecutive Canadian hitters before a two-out single in the top of the ninth. Layne, Juan Castillo, Tristan Polley, and Joe Corbett combined for seven shutout innings behind starter Zak Kent .
  • The Indians have won all three series since the All-Star break, compiling a 7-2 record in those nine games.
  • Despite winning three of their last four games, Spokane has gone just 4-for-29 with runners in scoring position in that stretch.

KEY MOMENT
After breaking a streak of 19 consecutive batters retired, Vancouver put runners at the corners with two outs in the top of the ninth. Manager Kenny Hook turned to Joe Corbett to get the final out. He froze Brett Wright for a called third strike to end the game and pick up his first save.
AROUND THE LEAGUE
The win over Vancouver keeps Spokane in first place in the second half standings. The Canadians drop to five games behind. Everett tops Tri-City 11-8 in 11 innings. The loss drops the Dust Devils to a game back of Spokane and the AquaSox are now two back.
