Canadians Shut Out Indians to Even Series

SPOKANE, Wash. - For the second time in three weeks, Adam Kloffenstein threw five shutout innings at Avista Stadium to lead the Vancouver Canadians to a victory over Spokane Indians. TOP PERFORMERS

• Josh Javier bounced back from a couple rough outings and twirled four strong innings for the Indians. He gave up just one unearned run on one hit while striking out three.
• Nic Laio , Daniel Robert , and Werner Leal combined for five shutout innings out of the bullpen. The trio gave up just one hit and struck out four.
• Francisco Ventura worked two walks, the second multi-walk game in his last four starts.

BY THE NUMBERS

• After giving up a run in his first outing of the season, Daniel Robert has thrown 27 consecutive scoreless innings. He has given up just one hit in his last 14 innings and has 37 strikeouts to just five walks on the season. His ERA is a microscopic 0.33.
• Werner Leal isn't too far behind Robert in the dominance category. Leal's ERA is now 0.76 after two more scoreless innings. He has 46 strikeouts to seven walks in 35.2 innings and opponents are hitting just .171 against him.
• Spokane has had five separate four-game winning streaks this season. They have lost the fifth game all five times. The Indians have been shut out four times this season, three by Vancouver.

KEY MOMENT
Spokane's best chance offensively came in the bottom of the sixth. Two walks and a wild pitch set up second and third with one out for Cristian Inoa. His bat shattered on a pop up to third base for the second out. David Garcia worked a walk to load the bases for Jonah McReynolds. East Valley High School alum Gage Burland came in from the bullpen and got McReynolds to swing through a 3-2 fastball to end the inning.
AROUND THE LEAGUE
Tri-City scored four times in the ninth to upend Everett and even up the second half standings with Spokane. Both teams are 12-9 with the AquaSox lurking two games behind. Vancouver's win puts them four games out of first with 17 games to play.
