SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Indians fell to the Hillsboro Hops 3-2 in front of 6,812 Indians fans on Fireworks Night presented by Your Local Toyota Dealers, KEY 101, and 94.1 The Bear.

The Hops jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on Scott Engler with a run in the first and two more in the third. Engler (L, 2-3) battled back and was able to grind through five innings, allowing just the three runs while striking out five.
Spokane got back into the game with a free rally in the bottom of the fourth. Hillsboro reliever Carlos Hernandez hit a batter and walked three Indians, the last being Cristian Inoa, who brought in a run with his free pass. The Hops turned to Chester Pimentel to get out of the jam, but he hit Scott Kapers with a pitch, forcing in another run and making it 3-2. Those would be the only runs of the inning as Spokane failed to get the big hit to tie the game.
That ended up being an unfortunate trend for Spokane. They would get runners in scoring position again in the seventh and ninth innings, but could not capitalize.
The Indians' bullpen trio of Reggie Meyer, Austin Pettibone, and Werner Leal combined for four scoreless innings and struck out six. The Indians staff held Hops' outfielder Jake McCarthy hitless on the night, ending his 15-game hitting streak.
