Cardinals swing past Drillers, 4-2

May 14, 2013

Tulsa, OK - The Springfield Cardinals topped the Tulsa Drillers, 4-2, before 4,520 fans at ONEOK Field on Tuesday night.

After RHP Seth Blair (W, 2-3) and RHP Christian Bergman (L, 2-2) alternated three scoreless frames, the Cardinals (20-16) jumped in front in the top of the fourth inning. 3B Ruben Gotay led off with a double, followed by a bunt single from LF Chris Swauger to put runners at the corners. After a strikeout, SS Jake Lemmerman launched a three-run home run over the left field wall, swinging Springfield in front, 3-0.

Tulsa chipped away in the fourth and fifth frames. With two down in the fourth, LF Kyle Parker drove a solo home run over the right field wall to get the Drillers on the board. 1B Kiel Roling then led off the fifth with a solo shot of his own, bringing Tulsa within one run, 3-2.

However, Blair tossed a scoreless sixth and RHP Deryk Hooker dealt a scoreless seventh, before the Cardinals padded the lead in the eighth. Leading off the frame, CF James Ramsey hammered a solo home run to right field, stretching the advantage to 4-2.

Hooker logged a scoreless eighth, and then RHP Michael Blazek (S, 7) slammed the door in the bottom of the ninth, closing the 4-2 win for Springfield.
