Springfield, MO - The Tulsa Drillers battled out a series split with a hard-fought 5-4 win in 10 innings against the Springfield Cardinals before 5,217 fans at Hammons Field on Thursday night.

The Drillers (20-19) powered into an early lead with three homers against RHP Sandy Alcantara in the top of the second inning. Leading off the frame, CF Johan Mieses knocked a solo shot to left field. One out later, RHP Scott Barlow singled himself aboard, before Alcantara battled back to strike out 2B Tim Locastro for the second out. However, with one on and two down, SS Michael Ahmed launched a two-run blast over the left field fence, followed by a solo home run from 3B Edwin Rios with the back-to-back homers increasing the Drillers lead to 4-0.

The Cardinals (20-18) began chipping away in the bottom of the second against Barlow. With one down, 2B Jacob Wilson worked a free pass before racing all the way to third on an errant pick-off throw from Barlow. One out later, C Jesse Jenner lined an RBI single to left-center, plating Wilson to cut it to a 4-1 deficit.

Alcantara dug in throughout the rest of his outing, dealing three straight scoreless innings which included a stretch of nine consecutive outs. Alcantara closed his five innings with only the four runs allowed on seven hits and one walk while tallying five strikeouts.

RHP Blake McKnight followed suit with a scoreless top of the sixth, before the Cardinals continued the comeback in the bottom of the sixth. With one away, SS Alex Mejia worked a walk, before trotting home on a two-run shot lasered over the left field fence by LF Anthony Garcia, bringing the Cardinals within one run, 4-3.

Springfield completed the comeback in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two down and RHP Yasiel Sierra (W, 3-0) on the mound, LF Anthony Garcia rifled a double into the right field corner. With CF Adolis Garcia at-bat, LF Anthony Garcia moved to second on a wild pitch. Sierra uncorked another wild pitch, enabling LF Anthony Garcia to sprint home and tie the game, 4-4.

Both sides dealt a scoreless ninth, before the Drillers swung back in front in the top of the 10th against RHP Pedro Echemendia (L, 1-1). Leading off the inning, 1B Matt Beaty pulled a solo home run to right field, propelling the Drillers into the 5-4 lead.

Tulsa RHP Layne Somsen (S, 1) took over for the bottom of the 10th and worked around a two-out single from SS Alex Mejia, closing the 5-4 win for the Drillers.
