Drillers take Tuesday's tilt, 4-2

July 30, 2013

Tulsa, OK - The Tulsa Drillers topped the Springfield Cardinals, 4-2, before 4,970 fans at ONEOK Field on Tuesday night.

Tulsa (17-22, 51-56) swung in front in the bottom of the first inning against RHP Seth Blair (L, 3-9). LF Jaron Shepherd led off the frame with a triple, before coming in one out later on an RBI sacrifice fly by 1B Kyle Parker for the 1-0 lead.

Springfield (19-20, 52-55) answered with two tallies in the top of the third against RHP Josh Mueller. LF Adam Melker led off with a base hit and quickly took second base on a sacrifice bunt by Blair. CF James Ramsey then launched a two-run home run over the left field wall, belting the Cardinals in front, 2-1.

The Drillers, though, tied the game with an unearned run in the fifth, before moving back in front in the sixth. With two on and two away in the bottom of the sixth, CF Delta Cleary, Jr. drove a two-run triple off the left field wall, cracking what had been a 2-2 tie and catapulting the Drillers ahead by two runs.

The Cardinals refused to go down without a fight, loading the bases with no outs against RHP Juan Gonzalez in the top of the eighth. However, RHP Joe Gardner (S, 1) took over on the mound and induced a double play ball before ending the threat with a strikeout. Gardner then dealt a scoreless top of the ninth to close the 4-2 win for Tulsa. RHP Leuris Gomez (W, 2-1) pitched three scoreless relief innings, registering the victory for the Drillers.
