Five Cardinals named to Texas League All-Star Game

June 9, 2014

Springfield, MO - The Texas League announced on Monday the rosters for the 78th Annual Texas League All-Star Game, and the Springfield Cardinals will be represented by five players on the North Division Team - OF James Ramsey, 1B Jonathan Rodriguez, C Cody Stanley, RHP Joey Donofrio and LHP Kyle Hald.

The 2014 Texas League All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, June 24 at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock, Arkansas, the home of the Arkansas Travelers.

Ramsey, 24, got off to one of the best starts to the 2014 season in all of Double-A baseball. Through just the first 10 games of the season, the Alpharetta, Georgia native collected four home runs, 11 RBIs and eight extra-base hits while hitting .410, claiming the Texas League's first Player of the Week Award this year. Ramsey continued his torrid pace until going down with an injury on May 17. At that time, he was tied for the lead in Double-A with 11 home runs, which is still tied for 2nd in the Texas League. In addition to the 11 homers, Ramsey is hitting .305 on the season with 28 RBIs, 34 runs and a league-leading .583 slugging percentage through 40 games. Ranked as the Cardinals #8 prospect, he was originally selected by St. Louis in the 1st Round of the 2012 June Draft out of Florida State.

Rodriguez, 24, took the Texas League by storm in April, hitting .346 with nine doubles, four home runs and 15 RBIs during the season's first month. He was not only named the Texas League Player of the Week for April 21-26, but also won the Cardinals Minor League Player of the Month Award for April. The San Juan, Puerto Rico native is hitting .252 with five home runs, 23 RBIs and 10 doubles through 42 games on the season. After missing the first half of May due to an injury, he is heating back up with a .389 average (7x18) and five RBIs through his last five games. Rodriguez, a 2013 Florida State League Midseason and Postseason All-Star, was selected by the Cardinals in the 17th Round of the 2009 June Draft out of Manatee Community College in Florida.

Stanley, 25, has not only been one of the best defensive catchers in the Texas League this season, but also caught fire at the plate throughout the month of May. In 23 games in May, the Clinton, North Carolina native ranked 3rd in the league with a .364 average (32x88), along with four home runs and eight RBIs. His great month included an impressive eight-game hitting streak with 15 hits from May 6 - 16. Stanley is also currently 2nd in the league and 1st in the North Division with a 42.4% caught-stealing percentage, nabbing 14 of 33 would-be base stealers on the season. He was selected by St. Louis in the 4th Round of the 2010 June Draft out of the University of North Carolina - Wilmington.

In his first Double-A campaign, Donofrio, 25, has been one of the league's top relievers all season. The Los Gatos, CA native has gone 2-2 with a 1.33 ERA through 24 outings this year. With 34 strikeouts through 27.0 innings, Donofrio has the 4th-highest strikeout-per-nine innings ratio in the league at 11.33. He is also 5th in the league with a .194 batting-average-against, while ranking 4th with 24 appearances. Donofrio put together an incredible stretch of 18 consecutive outings from April 14 - June 1 without allowing an earned run, and has only surrendered four earned runs on the campaign. He was selected by the Cardinals in the 31st Round of the 2012 June Draft out of the University of California - Berkeley.

Hald, 25, has been one of the Texas League's top starting pitchers since being promoted from High-A Palm Beach on April 20. The Springfield, Virginia native has gone 5-1 with a 2.58 ERA, the 5th-best ERA in the league, through nine starts. In 52.1 total innings of work, he has allowed only 16 runs (15 earned) on 44 hits, while striking out 38 and walking only 20. The Texas League's Pitcher of the Week for May 5 - 11, Hald has limited his opponents to three runs or fewer in eight of his nine starts, including a 7.0-inning shutout start on May 6 and a 6.2-inning scoreless performance on June 4. He was selected by the Cardinals in the 18th Round of the 2011 June Draft out of Old Dominion University.
