San Antonio, TX - LHP Austin Gomber dealt 7.0 scoreless innings to help guide the Springfield Cardinals to the 2-0 shutout win against the San Antonio Missions before 2,947 fans at Wolff Stadium on Wednesday night. With their sixth straight win, coupled with a Tulsa Drillers loss on Wednesday, the Cardinals reclaim sole possession of 1st place in the North Division Second Half Standings.

LHP Austin Gomber (W, 7-7) dealt a dominant 7.0 scoreless innings with just three hits and four walks while striking out five batters. It marks Gomber's second consecutive 7.0-inning scoreless performance and extends his current scoreless innings streak to 17.0 straight frames without a run.

The biggest threat that Gomber faced came in the third inning, when he worked out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam with a strikeout and a double play, keeping the scoreless tie intact. He went on to close his start with seven straight outs, including striking out the side in the bottom of the seventh.

Missions RHP Cal Quantrill (L, 1-3) matched Gomber with five straight scoreless innings to start, keeping the game scoreless until Springfield (30-16, 65-51) swung in front in the top of the sixth. With one out, CF Oscar Mercado reached on a throwing error and quickly stole second base, his league-leading 35th swipe of the season. One out later, 1B John Nogowski and 2B Eliezer Álvarez worked back-to-back two-out walks, extending the inning and leading to RHP T.J. Weir taking over with the bases loaded. LF Anthony García came through with a two-out, two-run single through the middle, plating Mercado and Nogowski for the 2-0 lead.

Gomber kept the lead intact through the remainder of his seven frames, before giving way to RHP Tyler Bray for the eighth, who worked around a pair of singles and a walk to keep the Missions (26-19, 67-48) off the board. RHP Rowan Wick (S, 5) then slammed the door with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth, closing the 2-0 shutout win for the Cardinals.
