Ramsey named Texas League Player of the Week

Springfield, MO - The Texas League announced on Monday that Springfield Cardinals OF James Ramsey has been named the Texas League Player of the Week for the period from April 3 - 13. He becomes the first Player of the Week of the 2014 season.

Ramsey, 24, has gotten off to the best all-around start of any position player through the league's first 10 games. The Alpharetta, Georgia native leads the league with four home runs, 11 RBIs, eight extra-base hits, an .846 slugging percentage (nearly 200 points higher than the second-highest) and 33 total bases (nine more than the second-highest). He is also tied for the league lead with 16 hits, ranks 3rd with a .477 on-base percentage and a .410 batting average, and is tied for 3rd with 10 runs scored.

Ramsey started the season with an impressive eight-game hitting streak, collecting 15 hits over that stretch. In the four games from April 7 - 11, he went a remarkable 10-for-20 with three home runs, seven RBIs and eight runs scored.

In 2013, Ramsey spent the majority of the season with Springfield after starting the campaign in Palm Beach (High-A). He made his Double-A debut on May 5, 2013 and ended up hitting .251 with 15 homers and 44 RBIs through 93 games for the Cardinals last year. He also appeared in one game for the Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A) in September, before suiting up in the prestigious Arizona Fall League last fall.

A 2014 Major League Spring Training Non-Roster Invitee, Ramsey was selected by St. Louis in the 1st Round of the 2012 June Draft out of Florida State.

The Cardinals return home to start a four-game home series against the Arkansas Travelers this Thursday evening. Thursday's game is a "Buck a Brat" Night with $1 bratwursts at the ballpark. First Pitch is 7:10pm, gates open at 6:10pm.
