Rodriguez named Texas League Player of the Week

Springfield, MO - The Texas League announced on Monday that Springfield Cardinals 1B Jonathan Rodriguez has been named the Texas League Player of the Week for the week of April 21 - 27. He is already the second Cardinal to win the Weekly Award this season, with OF James Ramsey winning it for April 3 - 13. 

Rodriguez, 24, helped the first-place Cardinals go 5-2 on the week by hitting an incredible .519 (14-for-27) with one home run, five doubles, one triple, six RBIs and six runs through his seven games. He posted three-hit performances in three of the four games against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals to start the week, totaling 11 hits through that four-game series. 

The San Juan, Puerto Rico native is currently hitting .347 with four home runs and 15 RBIs through his first 19 games this season. He currently ranks among league leaders in numerous offensive categories, including batting average (2nd, .347), extra-base hits (1st, 13), home runs (t-3rd, 4), RBIs (t-3rd, 15), doubles (2nd, 8), slugging percentage (2nd, .653), on-base percentage (3rd, .424) and total bases (t-1st, 47). 

The first-year Springfield Cardinal is coming off an All-Star season with the Palm Beach Cardinals in 2013, hitting .284 with 18 home runs, 72 RBIs, 34 doubles and 71 runs in High-A last year. Rodriguez was selected by the Cardinals in the 17th round of the 2009 June Draft out of Manatee Junior College in Florida.

Cardinals return for 8-game homestand starting this Tuesday
