Travs rally late for 5-3 win

May 19, 2013

North Little Rock, AR - The Arkansas Travelers topped the Springfield Cardinals, 5-3, before 5,526 fans at Dickey-Stephens Park on Sunday afternoon.

Arkansas (24-18) struck first with two runs in the bottom of the second against RHP Seth Blair. With one on and two down, LF Drew Heid blooped an RBI single to left, before taking second base on the throw home. Heid then came in on an RBI single by C Mark Fleury for the 2-0 lead.

The Cardinals (22-19) came right back to tie it in the top of the fourth inning. CF James Ramsey led off with a single and swiped second base, before coming home on an RBI double by 1B Xavier Scruggs two outs later. SS Jake Lemmerman bounced an RBI base hit through the middle, scoring Scruggs and tying the score, 2-2.

After Arkansas CF Travis Witherspoon swung the Travelers back in front with a solo homer in the fourth, Springfield tied it again in the top of the fifth. C Cody Stanley started the inning with a base hit, advancing to second on a ground out. LF Mike O'Neill then drove an RBI single to center field, plating Stanley for the 3-3 tie.

That's how things remained until the Travelers rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning. With one away and the bases empty, RHP Kevin Thomas (L, 1-1) induced a ground ball off the bat of 3B Kaleb Cowart, but Cowart reached on an error. RHP Michael Blazek took over to face 1B CJ Cron, who singled to put two on. After an intentional walk to DH Robbie Widlansky, RF Randal Grichuk singled home a pair of runs, lifting the Travelers to the 5-3 lead.

Arkansas RHP Josh Judy (W, 1-0) tossed a 1-2-3 top of the ninth, closing the 5-3 win for the Travelers.
