North Little Rock, AR - The Arkansas Travelers claimed a rain-shortened win, 5-3, against the Springfield Cardinals before 4,340 fans at Dickey-Stephens Park on Friday night.

The Travelers (16-10, 51-45) got out to a quick start with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first against RHP Connor Jones (L, 5-4). Back-to-back walks opened the frame, before an RBI single from LF Eric Filia drove in the game's first run. A groundout to second advanced the runners to second and third, and then another groundout to second by DH Dario Pizzano plated RF Chuck Taylor from third, making it a 2-0 Arkansas lead.

The Cardinals (9-18, 42-55) battled right back in the top of the second against LHP Anthony Misiewicz (W, 2-7). With one away, RF Lane Thomas and C Andrew Knizner worked consecutive walks. DH Johan Mieses then rocketed an RBI single through the middle, scoring Thomas and moving Knizner to second. After an error loaded the bases, 2B Luke Dykstra brought home Knizner with an RBI groundout, evening it at 2-2.

Thre Travs, though, responded with RBI singles from Filia and 1B Joey Curletta in the second, retaking the lead, 4-2. Jones settled in from there with scoreless work through the remainder of his 4.2-inning start, at one point retiring nine batters in a row.

The Cardinals shaved the deficit with a solo shot from Thomas in the top of the sixth, adding to his team-leading totals of 18 homers and 61 RBIs and bringing Springfield back within just one run, 4-3.

However, Arkansas got the run right back in the bottom of the frame against RHP Derian Gonzalez, the 40-Man Roster member making his Springfield debut. A two-out double from CF Beau Amaral extended the inning and led to an RBI base knock from RF Chuck Taylor, making it 5-3.

With two down and the bases empty in the top of the seventh, the umpires sent the game into a delay due to lightning and persistent rain. After a delay of 55 minutes, the umpires called the game and the Travelers took the rain-shortened, 5-3, win in seven innings.
