FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 6, 2021) – The St. Lucie Mets snapped a five-game losing skid by beating the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels 2-0 in a rain-shorted game on Sunday afternoon at Hammond Stadium.

The game went into a delay with two outs in the top of the sixth and did not resume due to unplayable field conditions after rain moved through the area.

The Mets got a brilliant start from Oscar Rojas, who logged all five innings. Rojas allowed one hit, did not issue a walk and struck out two. He only threw 55 pitches before the rain washed out the remainder of his start.

Rojas retired the first nine batters he faced. He gave up a leadoff single in the fourth but erased that with a 1-4-3 double play.

The Mets broke through in the fifth inning off Mussels starter Brent Headrick. Jose Peroza drew a leadoff walk, then Warren Saunders pummeled a double deep to left field that scored Peroza from first base.

The Mets scored their second run in the top of the sixth when they executed a double steal with Joe Suozzi taking second base and Alex Ramirez scoring from third.

Headrick gave up just two hits while striking out 11 for the Mussels.

The Mets (17-13) are off on Monday. They return to Clover Park on Tuesday to start a six-game series against the Palm Beach Cardinals. First pitch is 6:10 p.m.
