PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (June 17, 2022) – The Tampa Tarpons held on to defeat the St. Lucie Mets 6-3 at Clover Park on Friday night.

With the Mets leading 1-0 in the fourth inning, Ben Cowles came off the bench for the Tarpons and hit a three-run double with two outs to put Tampa ahead 3-1.

Jasson Dominguez, the Yankees No. 3 prospect, hit a two-out, three-run homer against Joel Diaz in the sixth inning to increase the Tarpons lead to 6-1.

The Mets scored a run on a ground out in the eighth to close the gap to 6-2. In the bottom of the ninth, the Mets loaded the bases with no outs but could not complete the comeback. Bailey Dees struck out Junior Tilien for the first out. After a wild pitch scored a run to make it 6-3, Dees got Stanley Consuegra to line into a double play to end the game.

Tampa starter Richard Fitts (1-5) pitched his best game of the season, limiting the Mets to one run on four hits over 6.0 innings to get the win. Fitts walked one and struck out eight.

Mets starter Christian Scott (2-1) took the loss. He was charged with three runs over 3.1 innings. Scott struck out six.

William Lugo led the Mets at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a double and two runs.

Gregory Guerrero was 2 for 4 with his second double of the series.

Mets reliever Saul Gonzalez struck out seven over 3.0 hitless innings.

The Mets (39-21) and Tarpons (26-35) play game 5 of their series at Clover Park on Saturday.
