DUNEDIN, Fla. (June 19, 2018) - The Dunedin Jays overcame two separate deficits and beat the St. Lucie Mets 7-4 on Tuesday at Dunedin Stadium.
Dunedin's Kevin Smith tied the game 4-4 in the sixth with a two-run home run off of Mets starter Gabriel Llanes.
The Blue Jays scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning when Rodrigo Orozco scored on a wild pitch. The Jays made it 6-4 when Eduard Pinto scored on another wild pitch in the seventh. Dunedin scored their last run in the inning on a botched run down play by the Mets.
St. Lucie went 3 for 15 with runners in scoring position. The Mets had runners at second base and third base with no outs in the second inning and the ninth inning. They did not score in either situation.
Andrés Giménez went 2 for 4 with two doubles and a walk. He is now in the top five in the FSL with 16 doubles on the year.
Ian Strom went 1 for 2 with a double and two walks. Desmond Lindsay added a RBI triple.
The Blue Jays hit three homers against Llanes. The three homers are the most the Mets have surrendered in a game this season.
Jonathan Cheshire earned the win for the Blue Jays with 2.1 shutout innings. Jake Fishman struck out the final two batters of the game for his second save.
Four Dunedin pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts.
The Mets (27-39) and Blue Jays (30-37) conclude the first half of their Florida State League schedules with an 11 a.m. game on Wednesday.
