The Mets took a 3-2 lead on a two-run single by Brandon Brosher in the third inning, but Charlotte went on to score nine unanswered runs.
The Stone Crabs began the sixth inning with four consecutive doubles against Mets pitchers Gabriel Llanes and Thomas McIlraith. That extended the Charlotte lead to 7-3. Two more RBI ground outs in the inning made it 9-3.
Jesús Sánchez and David Rodríguez pummeled back-to-back solo home runs in the seventh to put the Crabs up 11-3.
A bright spot for the Mets was reliever Adam Atkins. He pitched two hitless innings and recorded five strikeouts.
At the plate Ian Strom singled and worked two walks. He scored twice.
The Stone Crabs belted out 12 hits, including eight for extra bases. Sanchez went 2 for 5 with a double and a homer. Rodriguez also added a double. Kevin Padlo doubled twice.
Stone Crabs reliever Spencer Jones pitched the final 4.1 innings to earn the win.
Llanes, the Mets starter, surrendered three earned runs in five innings. He took the loss.
The Mets committed a season high four errors.
