PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (August 14, 2018) -Anthony Kay helped pitch the St. Lucie Mets to a 4-1 win over the Florida Fire Frogs on Tuesday at First Data Field.
Kay twirled six excellent innings and picked up his fifth quality start. He limited the Fire Frogs to one run on five hits while walking just one. Kay struck out three and only threw 86 pitches in earning his third win.
Jay Bruce (hip) made a rehab start for the Mets in right field. He went 0 for 2 with a walk and strikeout at the plate. In his five innings in the outfield he did not have a ball hit his way.
The Fire Frogs took a 1-0 lead three batters into the game. Riley Delgado hit a one-out double and C.J. Alexander followed with a RBI double.
The Mets rallied to take the lead in the fifth. Jacob Zanon tied the game with a bases-loaded sac fly. Desmond Lindsay then launched a two-run double to deep center field to put the Mets up 3-1.
Ali Sanchez added an insurance run on a sac fly that plated Lindsay in the eighth.
Matt Pobereyko worked a four-out save. He struck out three batters in the ninth and improved to 9 for 9 in save chances.
Thomas McIlraith also chipped in with 1.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Lindsay went 1 for 3 with double, walk, two RBI and a run.
Luis Carpio went 2 for 4 with a run scored.
Tucker Davidson took the loss for the Fire Frogs. He gave up three runs in 4.2 innings.
The Mets (21-29, 48-69) and Fire Frogs (17-31, 46-68) play the third game of their series at First Data Field on Wednesday. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
