JUPITER, Fla. (July 10, 2019) - The St. Lucie Mets earned their ninth shutout of the season with a 5-0 win against the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Wednesday.
It was a bullpen day for the Mets with four relievers combining for the shutout. Andrew Mitchell got the spot start and pitched the first two innings, allowing a hit and recording a strikeout.
Darwin Ramos came on next and scattered five hits over 2.2 innings to get the win. Thomas McIlraith followed with 2.1 hitless innings.
Yeizo Campos retired all six batters he faced in the eighth and ninth to close out the game.
Offensively, Hansel Moreno provided the Mets with the runs they needed. After Manny Rodriguez worked a terrific walk to extend the fifth inning, Moreno punished a three-run homer off of Trevor Rogers for a 3-0 lead.
It was Moreno's first FSL home run.
Rodriguez added a RBI double in the seventh and Carlos Cortes finished the scoring with a sac fly in the eighth.
Rogers took the loss. He struck out nine batters but was tagged for four runs in 6.2 innings.
The Mets (15-8, 47-42) and Hammerheads (9-12, 30-54) conclude their four-game series at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Thursday. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
