JUPITER, Fla. (September 1, 2018) - Three pitchers combined for a shutout in a 4-0 win for the St. Lucie Mets over the Jupiter Hammerheads on Saturday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
Mets starter David Peterson was brilliant in his final appearance of the year. He breezed through five innings and struck out nine while not walking a batter. The Hammerheads mustered just two singles off of Peterson.
Peterson ended his 2018 campaign without allowing an earned run in his final 23 innings.
Joe Cavallaro made his first relief appearance for St. Lucie. After allowing the first two batters of the sixth to reach on a single and walk, Cavallaro settled down and retired nine straight.
Austin McGeorge pitched a scoreless ninth to wrap up the game.
The three Mets pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts and one walk.
The Mets scored the only run they needed in the second inning. Quinn Brodey singled, stole second and went to third on an error. Blake Tiberi then knocked Brodey in with a ground out.
Desmond Lindsay and Jeremy Vasquez hit RBI singles in the third inning to put the Mets up 3-0.
Vasquez led off the eighth with his first triple. Tiberi drove Vasquez in with a double to make it 4-0.
Vasquez went 2 for 4. Tiberi had two RBI.
Jupiter pitcher Josh Roeder made a quality start yet took the loss. He gave up three runs over six innings.
The Mets (27-36, 54-76) and Hammerheads (29-36, 70-64) wrap up the 2018 season on Sunday. First pitch from Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium is 10:30 a.m.
