Threshers pull away for 4-1 win against Mets

CLEARWATER, Fla. (August 12, 2018) - The Clearwater Threshers pulled away from the St. Lucie Mets for a 4-1 victory on Sunday at Spectrum Field.
The game was highlighted by New York Mets third baseman and captain David Wright starting a rehab assignment. Wright played third base for five innings and went 0 for 3 at the plate.
Wright struck out in his first two at-bats, then ripped a deep lineout to left field in his final plate appearance. In the field, Wright caught a pop up. It was the only ball hit to him on the afternoon.
The Mets started the game hot. Leadoff hitter Luis Carpio slugged a long home run to left field off of Mauricio Llovera.
The Mets' 1-0 lead lasted until two outs in the fifth. Phillies rehabbing catcher Wilson Ramos hit a double to deep center field. Henri Lartigue followed with a RBI single to make it 1-1.
The Threshers took the lead in the sixth. A pop up by Jose Gomez with two outs fell in between three defenders, allowing Kevin Markham to score the go-ahead run from second base.
Daniel Brito and Kyle Martin hit back-to-back RBI singles in the seventh to make it 4-1 Threshers.
Mets starter Joe Cavallaro pitched a quality start in the loss. He scattered eight hits and two runs over six innings while striking out five.
Llovera settled in after Carpio's leadoff homer. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter in six innings to get the win.
Addison Russ closed out the game for his 10th save.
Quinn Brodey went 2 for 4 with a double for the Mets.
Ramos ended up hitting three doubles for the Threshers.
The Mets (20-28, 47-68) return home on Monday to face the Florida Fire Frogs. First pitch at First Data Field is set for 6:30 p.m.
