STATEN ISLAND--The Yankees defeated the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 4-2 to take the first two games of this three-game set at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Thursday night.
Staten Island opened the scoring with an RBI sacrifice fly from Eduardo Torrealba to take the lead in the third inning. The Scrappers scored two runs in the fifth inning to the lead.
However, the Yankees would respond in the seventh as Eric Wagaman's RBI single that gave the Baby Bombers the lead for the good. Staten Island would add on another run in the eighth for insurance.
Christian Morris would come in to close out the game in the ninth to earn his second save of the season. The win brought the Yankees to 13-13 on the season. It is the first time they have been at the .500 mark since the second game of the year.
Rodney Hutchison picked up his first career professional win in the triumph and Zack Draper was tagged with the loss for the Scrappers.
The Yankees and Scrappers will finish the series on Friday at 7p.m. as Staten Island will go for the sweep.
