STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-The Staten Island Pizza Rats defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones 5-2 in front of a large crowd at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Saturday night to take game two of the three game series.
Staten Island (4-4) and Brooklyn traded blows early as the teams alternated runs in each of the first four innings.
With the scored tied at two heading after five innings, both teams were looking for a breakthrough to take the lead. The Pizza Rats would do just that in the sixth when Miguel Flames picked up an RBI groundout to give Staten Island their first lead of the night.
The Pizza Rats would add two more in the seventh on a wild pitch which scored Oswald Peraza from third followed by an important RBI single from Ezequiel Duran to make it 5-2 Staten Island.
Anderson Munoz and Keegan Curtis would combine to put together a strong performance out of the Pizza Rat bullpen to keep the Cyclones off the scoreboard in the late innings with Curtis closing it out the ninth.
Brooklyn drops to 4-4 and in a tie with the Pizza Rats in the standings with the teams set to meet again tomorrow at 4p.m. at MCU Park in the final game of the series.
Staten Island returns home on Tuesday to start a three-game series with the Hudson Valley Renegades.
