STATEN ISLAND--The Staten Island Yankees defeated the Vermont Lake Monsters 6-0 on Thursday night at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
For the Baby Bombers, the pitching starred all night long led by three newcomers in Tanner Myatt, Daniel Beis and Austin Gardner who stepped up in a big way. Myatt threw two innings to start the game, followed by four shutout innings from Beis. Gardner finished the game with three shutout innings including an inning where he struck out four batters after one batter that was struck out reached on a wild pitch.
The offense was paced by Josh Breaux who drove in two runs, one in the first and the second in the eighth. Kyle Gray delivered the big blow in a five-run eighth inning with a three-run home run to put the game out of reach.
The Yankees and Lake Monsters meet again tomorrow night at 7p.m. for the rubber game of this three-game set as the Baby Bombers continue their push for a spot in the NY-Penn League playoffs.
