STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-The Staten Island Yankees dropped a 2-1 affair with the Tri-City ValleyCats at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Tuesday night.
Pitching was the order of the day for both teams as Tri-City got five shutout innings from starter Valente Bellozo and reliever Angel Macuare threw four innings to finish off the game.
Tri-City (7-10) scored on two RBI groundouts in the first two innings of the game. The first came from C.J. Stubbs and the second came from Andres Santana.
The Yankees (10-7) got great performances from Austin Gardner, Justin Wilson and Aaron McGarity out of the bullpen to keep the score where it was and give the offense a chance to comeback.
Staten Island would get a run in the seventh on a triple by Jake Sanford who came in to score on an RBI groundout by Ezequiel Duran. RBI groundouts ruled the day, however, Staten Island would not score again.
The Yankees and ValleyCats meet again in the rubber game of this series tomorrow at Richmond County Bank Ballpark with first pitch scheduled for 7p.m.
