The Yankees were paced by great hitting and even better pitching on their way to a dominant win in the opener.
Staten Island (10-6) got a great start from Wellington Diaz who threw six shutout innings while giving up just three hits. Daniel Ramos and Bryan Blanton came in from the bullpen and were fantastic as they combined to finish off the ValleyCats.
Offensively, the Yankees scored five runs in the first inning led by big hits from Jake Sanford and Ezequiel Duran who each drove in a run in the inning.
Oswald Peraza would add a second inning home run to make it 6-0 Yankees and the Baby Bombers were not done yet.
Staten Island got four straight two out hits from Everson Pereira, Sanford, Duran and a two-run single from Andres Chaparro to add on three more runs in the sixth inning. For Sanford, he drove in his two runs as a professional player in the win.
The Yankees will look to make it two in a row against Tri-City on Tuesday night when these same two will face off again at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. First pitch will be 7p.m.
