STATEN ISLAND--The Staten Island Yankees defeated the West Virginia Black Bears 3-2 to win the second game of this three-game set at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Sunday.
The Yankees have now won the first two games of the series behind great performances again from Staten Island pitchers.
Shawn Semple started strong with five good innings including seven strikeouts which was a professional career-high. Abel Duarte would come out of the bullpen and throw three shutout innings while striking out three and giving up just one hit. Christian Morris closed the game out in the ninth to pick up his third save of the season.
Staten Island trailed 2-0 after four and a half innings, but were able to begin the comeback in the bottom of the fifth.
Eduardo Torrealba's RBI groundout got the Yankees on the board and the Baby Bombers would tie the game in the sixth on an RBI single by Eric Wagaman.
The Yankees would take the lead in the eighth on an RBI sacrifice fly from Brandon Lockridge that drove in Alex Junior who had tripled earlier in the inning.
Staten Island will look for the sweep tomorrow morning as the Yankees host West Virginia at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on a camp day. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
