Stockton Ports first baseman Lawrence Butler has been named the Low-A West Player of the Week for the week of July 19 - 25, Minor League Baseball announced Monday morning. This is the first time Butler has been named Player of the Week.

Butler helped guide the Ports to a series split with the second place San Jose Giants this past week at Excite Ballpark. In six games, Butler slashed lines of .400/.444/1.244 with three home runs, including two grand slams, 11 RBI, a double, and six runs scored. He was first in total bases (20), and RBI (11) and was second in home runs (3) and fourth in OPS (1.244).

The former sixth round draft pick began his week with a 3-4 effort in Tuesday’s game one with three singles. On Wednesday, he carried over his success going 2-4 with two opposite field home runs and six RBI, including a grand slam in the top of the eighth in the Ports 6-1 win. The six RBI are the most by a Ports player this season.

He would accompany his Wednesday afternoon with another impressive performance Friday night going 2-4 and roping his third grand slam of the season and the second of the series in the Ports 10-4 route over the Giants. In just 11 plate appearances with the bases loaded this season, Butler leads the league with an absurd three home runs, 20 RBI, and 2.803 OPS.

This season has been like no other for the Atlanta, Georgia native. After being drafted in the sixth round in 2018 from the Oakland Athletics, Butler hit just .194 with five home runs and 37 RBI his first two seasons in 101 games. After this week, the lefty slugger has raised his average to .251 while padding his team leading 13 home runs, 51 RBI, 44 runs scored and 16 stolen bases in 66 games.

The Ports return to Banner Island Ballpark this week, beginning a 12-game home stand with a six-game series against the Visalia Rawhide on Tuesday, July 27 at 7:05 pm. Single game tickets for the rest of the season are available at stocktonports.com, the box office or by calling the Front Office at 209-644-1900.
