Burke, Jones shut out Bradenton 3-0

BRADENTON, Fla. (August 10, 2017) - Charlotte Stone Crabs pitchers Brock Burke and Spencer Jones combined on a 3-0 shutout of the Bradenton Marauders Thursday night at LECOM Park.Burke (3-5) allowed four hits and two walks while striking out four over five scoreless innings, stranding six Marauders in the process.

BRADENTON, Fla. (August 10, 2017) - Charlotte Stone Crabs pitchers Brock Burke and Spencer Jones combined on a 3-0 shutout of the Bradenton Marauders Thursday night at LECOM Park.
Burke (3-5) allowed four hits and two walks while striking out four over five scoreless innings, stranding six Marauders in the process. Jones worked the final four innings, surrendering just two hits while striking out three.
The win is the Stone Crabs' (55-58, 24-21) eleventh shutout of the year.
Charlotte got on the board as quickly as possible when Lucius Fox drove a solo home run to right center to lead off the first inning.
With the Stone Crabs still up 1-0 in the sixth, Peter Maris delivered a one-out single. David Olmedo-Barrera then lined a single to center to move Maris to third with one out. Ryan Boldt followed by flying out to deep left to score Maris and give Charlotte a 2-0 lead.
Bradenton (62-51, 25-21) starter Logan Sendelbach (2-5) lasted six innings, allowing two runs on five hits.  
In the top of the eighth, Fox was hit by a pitch before stealing second and advancing to third on a Bradenton throwing error. Maris followed by lining a double to the gap to plate Fox and make the count 3-0.
The Stone Crabs will have a chance to pass both Bradenton and Jupiter in the standings Friday when they take on the Marauders at 6:30 p.m. Burch Smith (1-1, 3.46) makes the start for Charlotte against Pedro Vasquez (9-5, 2.91) of Bradenton.
