Chasers Drop Two in Nashville, 14-7 & 1-0

NASHVILLE, TN (April 15, 2018) - The Storm Chasers came up short in a pair of games in Nashville, as the Sounds won 14-7 in a resumed game that had been suspended due to rain on Saturday night, and then bested the Chasers in a 1-0 pitchers' duel in the 2^nd game on Sunday evening at First Tennessee Park.
The Chasers began the resumed game trailing 6-2 in the bottom of the 4^th inning. They started the day strongly, closing out the bottom of the 4^th inning and then cutting into Nashville's lead in the top of the 5^th. Jack Lopez stroked a 2-out single, stole 2^nd, and scored on a single by Hunter Dozier , making it 6-3.
Omaha inched closer in the the top of the 6^th. Parker Morin singled, Logan Moon doubled, and Terrance Gore knocked in Parker with an RBI groundout, cutting Nashville's advantage to 6-4.
Nashville broke the game open in the bottom of the 6^th, however. Jorge Mateo singled against Seth Maness , stole 2^nd, and immediately went to 3^rd on an errant throw by Parker Morin. Nick Martini singled Mateo home, Anthony García reached on a fielding error, and with 2 out, Beau Taylor singled to score Martini. Slade Heathcott followed with a single to load the bases, and Steve Lombardozzi singled in 2 more runs to make it 10-4 Sounds.
The Storm Chasers responded with 2 in the top of the 7^th. Jack Lopez walked, Hunter Dozier singled, Frank Schwindel doubled to score Lopez, and Tyler Collins knocked in Dozier with a sacrifice fly.
Omaha made it 10-7 in the top of the 8^th; Terrance Gore beat out an infield single, stole 2^nd, advanced to 3^rd on a groundout, and scored on a single by Jack Lopez.
But Nashville posted another crooked number in the home half of the 8^th. Anthony Garcia walked, Sheldon Nuese walked, and after Wily Peralta relieved Brandon Maurer , Slade Heathcott and Steve Lombardozzi both walked to force home a run. B.J. Boyd singled to bring in 2 runners, and with 2 out, Dustin Fowler and Nick Martini walked to force in another run, giving Nashville a 14-7 lead. Humberto Arteaga was summoned to record the final out of the frame.
Andres Machado (L, 0-1), who had started the game and pitched the first 3 innings last night prior to the suspension, was tagged with the loss. He allowed 4 runs (2 earned), 2 hits, and 3 walks, while striking out 2.
Raúl Alcántara (W, 1-0) was credited with the win despite allowing 4 runs in 3 relief innings. Lou Trivino (S, 1) was awarded the save, as he pitched a scoreless final 1.2 innings.
Game 2 of the strange doubleheader was very different, as both teams struggled to crack the scoreboard. James Naile and Heath Fillmyer matched zeroes through 5 innings, with Omaha stranding 4 runners and Nashville 3. Fillmyer was lifted with 1 out in the bottom of the 6^th.
Fillmyer allowed only 2 hits over his 5.1 innings, with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk. Richard Lovelady recorded the final 2 outs of the 6^th, stranding 2 Sounds baserunners.
Naile (W, 3-0) was credited with a Complete Game. He worked 7 innings, and allowed 5 hits. He struck out 7 and walked 1.
In the bottom of the 7^th, Nashville mounted a game-winning rally against Lovelady (L, 0-1). Nick Martini walked, Slade Heathcott doubled Martini to 3^rd, Steve Lombardozzi was intentionally walked, and Dustin Garneau delivered a single to left to score Martini with the winning run.
The Storm Chasers (2-8) conclude their road trip in Nashville tomorrow afternoon at 12:05 PM Central Time. RHP Trevor Oaks (0-2, 5.23) will pitch for Omaha, while RHP Frankie Montas (0-1, 54.00) takes the ball for the Sounds.
