Storm Chasers first baseman Frank Schwindel finished his 2017 campaign on a strong note with two more hits and drove in two runs, while starter Arnaldo Hernandez fired nearly six strong frames as Omaha topped the Iowa Cubs 7-3 in their finale on Monday afternoon at Werner Park.

Schwindel completed his season with a ten-game hit streak thanks to his two knocks, the first of which was an RBI single that got the scoring started for Omaha as part of a four-run opening frame. 3B Garin Cecchini immediately followed with an opposite field RBI double to left, with LF Ruben Sosa capping the scoring spurt with a two-run double to center to make it 4-0.
That margin would remain the same until the sixth, when the two clubs swapped single tallies. Schwindel then brought across his second RBI of the day via an infield single to increase the advantage to 6-1, before CF Billy Burns' infield knock one inning later gave Omaha a 7-1 lead. Iowa added a pair of tallies in the ninth to cut the deficit to four before the Storm Chasers thwarted the Cubs' comeback thoughts.
Schwindel (2-4, R, 2 RBI), Cecchini (2-4, 2 R, 2B, RBI) and Burns (2-5, RBI) all recorded multi-hit efforts in the victory, with Iowa 3B Stephen Bruno (3-4, R, 2 2B, RBI) posting a game-high 3 knocks, in addition to two hits from C Ali Solis (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI). Schwindel finished the 2017 campaign with hits in 47 of his final 50 games with Omaha dating back to July 15 while ranking among the top ten minor leaguers in several offensive categories over the entire season.
Hernandez (5.2 IP, 5 H, R, ER, BB, 4 K) earned his first Triple-A victory after yielding a lone earned run on five hits in 5.2 innings, retiring 12 of the first 14 batters he faced. Reliever Mark Peterson (1.1 IP, H, K) received his first hold, with Iowa starter Williams Perez (6.0 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 K) suffering the defeat.
The Storm Chasers are set to play the Kansas City Royals in an exhibition game at Werner Park on March 26, 2018. Omaha will also begin their 2018 season at home on Thursday, April 5, facing off against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
