Five Chasers Promoted to Kansas City

The Kansas City Royals announced a series of transactions on Friday that affects their Triple-A affiliate Omaha Storm Chasers roster prior to this evening's series-opening matchup versus the Iowa Cubs at Werner Park.

Five Storm Chasers players have been promoted to Kansas City, including right-hander Andres Machado, catcher Cam Gallagher, infielders Raul Mondesi, outfielders Paulo Orlando and Terrance Gore.
Machado's contract was selected by the Royals, and he would make his Major League debut when he first appears in a game with Kansas City. Combined between three Royals minor league clubs this season, the 24-year-old accumulated an 8-9 record and 4.54 ERA (56 ER/111.0 IP) in 29 outings (16 starts)., adding 111 strikeouts. In seven starts with Omaha he compiled a 2-2 mark and 3.63 ERA (14 ER/34.2 IP) with 38 punchouts.
Gallagher posted a .292 average (76-260) in 73 games with the Storm Chasers, adding 26 runs, 13 doubles, five homers and 37 RBI. The Pennsylvania native threw out 34.8% of would-be basestealers (23-66), ranking him second in the Pacific Coast League. The 24-year-old made his Major League debut earlier this year on August 6, tallying a .385 clip (5-13) with two runs, one double, one homer and five RBI in five contests with Kansas City.
Mondesi in 85 bouts with Omaha this year posted a .305 average (98-321), along with 52 runs, 20 doubles, eight triples, 13 homers and 52 RBI. The switch-hitter led the Storm Chasers in triples while also stealing 21 bases in 24 attempts, which ranked him second on the club.
In 30 total games with the Storm Chasers this year, Orlando accrued a .293 average (34-116), adding 14 runs, ten doubles, two homers and 19 RBI. The Brazil native most recently had recorded a hit in 17 of his last 21 contests with Omaha dating back to May 4, including 11 of his last 13.
Gore accumulated a .247 mark (41-166) over 65 matchups, adding 29 runs, three doubles, three triples, one homer and ten RBI. The 26-year-old was successful in 13 of 16 stolen bases attempts in that span.
In corresponding moves, catcher Luis Villegas, infielder Garin Cecchini and outfielder Ruben Sosa have been activated from the Disabled List. Infielders Carlos Diaz and Zach Walters have also been transferred to Omaha from Double-A Northwest Arkansas, while right-hander Jace Vines has been transferred to High-A Wilmington.
As a result of these transactions, the Storm Chasers' active roster stands at 24, in addition to three on the Disabled List and outfielder Jorge Soler on the Temporary Inactive List. A revised roster is attached.
Omaha completes their 2017 campaign with a four-game series versus the Iowa Cubs beginning this evening at Werner Park. First pitch of the series opener is set for 7:05 p.m. CT. The Storm Chasers are anticipated to give the nod to LHP Jake Kalish (1-0, 0.90), with the I-Cubs expected to give the nod to RHP Scott Carroll (1-1, 3.38).
