The Lake Elsinore Storm, in conjunction with the San Diego Padres, have announced their 2017 Opening Day roster, one of the most intriguing rosters in Minor League Baseball. The Storm will have eight of the Padres Top 30 Prospects, ranked by MLB.com, including right-handed pitcher Anderson Espinoza, the Padres second-ranked prospect. Fourteen players who wore the Storm uniform last year return to Lake Elsinore this season.

The 2017 roster is made up of 26 players from nine states and seven countries, with players ranging in age from 19 to 25. The roster includes a pitching staff that carries three prospects in the Padres Top 10 (Espinoza, Cal Quantrill, Eric Lauer), and at least one Padres Top 30 prospect behind the plate, in the infield, and roaming the outfield. With a steady balance of experienced California League players and a plethora of highly-ranked prospects, the Storm will chase the franchise's fourth league title in what will be its 24th season.

At the helm will be first-year Storm skipper Edwin Rodriguez, the 15th manager in team history. Rodriguez has 17 years of managerial experience, including parts of two seasons as skipper of the Florida Marlins from 2010-2011 in which the team went 78-85 under his direction. This is Rodriguez's first year in the San Diego organization since his MLB playing career over 30 years ago. Rodriguez drew recent recognition as manager of World Baseball Classic runner-up Puerto Rico.
