Dirden Homers in Space Cowboys Finale in El Paso

Dirden, who was assigned to the Space Cowboys from Double A Corpus Chrsiti *on Monday, hit a three-run homer in the Space Cowboys’ *13-5 loss to the El Paso Chihuahuas on Sunday night at Southwest University Park.

Through his first four games at the Triple A level, Dirden has hit .364 (8x22) with three doubles, a home run and eight RBI. Dirden is ranked as the Houston Astros’ No. 28 prospect by MLB.com.

The Space Cowboys won four of six games in El Paso despite their loss Sunday. The Chihuahuas jumped out to a 7-0 lead prior to Dirden’s three-run homer.

Jose Azocar, Matt Beaty and Brett Sullivan each homered for El Paso. Sullivan and Azocar each drove in four runs apiece.

Yainer Diaz went 2-for-5, delivering an RBI single to score Marty Costes in the seventh. Costes walked to open the ninth and came around to score on a double-play ball off the bat of Diaz in the ninth.

The Space Cowboys open a six-game homestand against the Oklahoma City Dodgers at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday night at Constellation Field, with Forrest Whitley scheduled to start the opener.
