Matijevic and Hensley Power Space Cowboys to Win

(WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.)JJ Matijevic and David Hensley launched home runs to power the Sugar Land Space Cowboys to an 8-1 victory ove the Sacramento River Cats on Sunday afternoon at Sutter Health Park.

Matijevic delivered his second home run of the season in the first inning off Sacramento starter Jakob Junis, sailing an estimated 401 feet onto the berm in right-center field. Hensley helped put the game away with a 431-foot, three-run homer to center field in the sixth inning, which was his first career home run at the Triple A level. Hensley finished the day 3-for-4 with four RBI, also adding a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Alex De Goti delivered an RBI single in the fifth to follow Hensley’s sacrifice fly.

Space Cowboys starter JP France struck out eight batters through four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and an unearned run. France’s eight strikeouts were the most in a single game from a Pacific Coast League Pitcher this season.

Franklin Barreto finished out the Space Cowboys scoring with an RBI double in the sixth. He ended the afternoon 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBI.

Seth Martinez provided two scoreless and hitless innings of relief following France, and left-handers Zac Rosscup and Adam Morgan added scoreless and hitless innings out of the bullpen.

The Space Cowboys return to Sugar Land for their Home Opener at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday at Constellation Field against the Round Rock Express.
