Skeeters Drop Opener of Road Trip in Albuquerque

(ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico) – The Sugar Land Skeeters dropped the opener of their road trip with an 8-5 loss Thursday night to the Albuquerque Isotopes at Isotopes Park.

Taylor Motter provided the key blow with a three-run shot in the fifth inning to give Albuquerque an 8-1 lead.

The Skeeters began to come back with two runs in the sixth inning and a run in the seventh. Bryan De La Cruz belted a two-run shot, his 11th of the season, in the sixth. It was De La Cruz’s 13th RBI over his last 12 games. Ronnie Dawson added an opposite-field RBI single in the seventh.

Alex De Goti drove in the Skeeters’ final run of the night with an RBI single in the eighth inning.

Albuquerque tallied four runs in the third inning. Ryan Vilade got the inning started with an RBI triple, Connor Joe and Motter added RBI singles and Alan Trejo finished the scoring with an RBI double.

Right-hander Nivaldo Rodriguez, who was issued the loss, got the start and allowed five runs on six hits through 2 2/3 innings. Seth Martinez followed him and surrendered three runs through 2 1/3 innings of work.

Jose Siri drove in the Skeeters’ first run of the night, providing an RBI double in the second inning. Siri entered the night tied for sixth in Triple A West with 44 RBIs.

Albuquerque right-hander Ryan Castellani allowed just one run through five innings to receive the winning decision.

Skeeters right-hander JP France will get the start for the Skeeters at 7:35 p.m. on Friday night in Albuquerque.
