Skeeters Lower Magic Number to 2 with Win over Round Rock

(ROUND ROCK, Texas) – The Sugar Land Skeeters lowered their magic number to two games with a 4-2 win over the Round Rock Express on Monday night at Dell Diamond.

With a Skeeters win and a loss from Oklahoma City on Tuesday, the Skeeters would clinch the Triple A West East Division title.

A night after being shut out, the Skeeters jumped out to a 3-0 lead through five innings. Taylor Jones, who began an MLB Rehab Assignment on Monday, knocked an RBI single in the second inning.

The Skeeters tacked on a pair in the fourth on RBI singles from Jason Castro and Jacob Wilson. Castro began an MLB Rehab Assignment with the Skeeters on Monday as well. Jones and Castro combined to go 2-for-4 with two RBIs and five walks in the win.

JJ Matijevic padded the Skeeters lead in the fifth inning with a solo homer. It gave him 23 total home runs on the season, which are the second-most of Astros minor leaguers.

Right-hander Hunter Brown, rated as the Astros No. 3 prospect by MLB.com, tossed a season-high 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out five batters to pick up the win. Andy Ibanez provided all the offense for Round Rock in the seventh inning with a two-run homer off Brown.

Andre Scrubb, making the fourth appearance of his MLB Rehab Assignment with the Skeeters, struck out one through a scoreless inning of relief.

The Skeeters finish out their six-game set in Round Rock at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday. Right-hander Shawn Dubin will take the mound for the Skeeters, with the Express starting left-hander Brock Burke.
