Space Cowboys Fall in Extras to OKC

(OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.) *– The *Sugar Land Space Cowboys dropped a 3-2 extra-inning decision Friday night to the Oklahoma City Dodgers at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The game remained knotted at 1-1 through nine innings. Jason Martin delivered an RBI single in the first and Lewis Brinson followed with a solo home run in the second.

Brinson homered for the second straight night and the 15th time this season. He is second on the Space Cowboys in home runs. He has hit 14 of his homers since May 1, which is tied for eighth in the Pacific Coast League during that stretch.

Marty Costes gave the Space Cowboys the lead in the 10th with an RBI single to drive in David Hensley. Miguel Vargas sent Oklahoma City to the win with a two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning.

Hunter Brown, who is rated as the Houston Astros No. 1 prospect by MLB.com, got the start and struck out five batters through 4 2/3 innings. Brown allowed a run on five hits while surrendering just one walk. Brown leads the PCL with a 2.58 ERA, 106 strikeouts and a .199 opponent’s batting average.

Parker Mushinski, Nick Hernandez and Layne Henderson combined to toss 4 1/3 scoreless innings to send the game to extra innings.

The Space Cowboys and Dodgers continue their series at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday. Peter Solomon is scheduled to start for the Space Cowboys, with Beau Burrows set to start for Oklahoma City.
