Space Cowboys Top Round Rock in 2-1 Victory

(SUGAR LAND, Texas) *– A little less than a month ago, *Yainer Diaz and Hunter Brown represented the Houston Astros in the 2022 All-Star Futures Game.

On Thursday, the duo helped lead the Sugar Land Space Cowboys to a win over the Round Rock Express.

Diaz belted a two-run homer and Brown struck out nine batters though 5 1/3 innings of relief in a 2-1 victory at Constellation Field.

The two-run homer from Diaz came in the first, giving him 10 since joining the Space Cowboys and 19 overall on the season. He entered seventh of Minor League Baseball catchers in home runs on the year.

Forrest Whitley – ranked as the Astros’ No. 4 prospect by MLB.com – made his first start since July 10 – striking out three batters through 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Whitley exited his start on July 10 with right biceps inflammation. Whitley tossed 37 pitches and did not allow a walk to go with two hits.

Jon Olczak tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings following Whitley to collect the winning decision. Brown followed with the longest relief outing from a Space Cowboys pitcher this season and wasa one strikeout away from matching his season high. He retired 10 consecutive batters to open his outing.

Nick Tanielu drove in Round Rock’s only run with an RBI single in the ninth.

The Space Cowboys and Express continue their six-game set at 7:05 p.m. on Friday night at Constellation Field, with Chad Donato set to face Kolby Allard.
