Chiefs swat their way past Bisons Friday night

Syracuse, NY (August 31, 2018) - The Syracuse Chiefs rallied from 2-0 down after a half inning to score seven unanswered runs, eventually posting a 7-4 win over the Buffalo Bisons Friday night at NBT Bank Stadium.

Buffalo (61-74) started the scoring in the first inning. Dwight Smith, Jr. doubled with one out off Phillips Valdez, followed by a double by Valdimir Guerrero, Jr. to make it a 1-0 Bisons lead. Two batters later, Anthony Alford doubled home Guerrero to push the Herd lead to two.

Syracuse (61-76) quickly answered in the bottom of the first. Victor Robles walked to lead off against Brandon Cumpton and moved to second on a groundout. Jacob Wilson then singled to right to score Robles and cut the deficit to one. After a second walk of the inning, this time to Matt Reynolds, Pedro Severino singled home Wilson to tie the score.

The Chiefs continued their scoring in the third. Jose Marmolejos singled, Reynolds walked and Severino singled to load the bases. Two batters later, Yadiel Hernandez doubled to plate two runs and give Syracuse its first lead at 4-2. Bengie Gonzalez followed with a two-run single to push the advantage to 6-2.

Gonzalez capped the Chiefs scoring in the sixth inning with his third home run of the season over the right field fence for a 7-2 lead.

The Bisons added two runs in the eighth inning on Richard Urena's two-out two-run home run off Chris Smith.

The Chiefs and Bisons continue their season-ending series Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Joe Ross is scheduled to start for Syracuse opposite RHP Zach Stewart for Buffalo.
