Syracuse, NY (June 12, 2018) - The Syracuse Chiefs led for eight innings Tuesday night, but the Pawtucket Red Sox scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat the Chiefs, 5-3, at NBT Bank Stadium. Moisés Sierra and Jaff Decker each had two hits and an RBI for the Chiefs in the game.

Pawtucket (30-32) entered the ninth inning trailing 3-2. Iván De Jesús Jr. doubled, Mike Olt walked, and Oscar Hernández singled to load the bases against Jimmy Cordero. Mike Miller then worked a walk with the bases loaded to score De Jesus Jr., tying the game, 3-3. Tzu-Wei Lin followed with a ground ball to the left of the mound that Chiefs pitcher Cordero misplayed for an error that allowed Olt to come home and everyone else to advance safely as the Red Sox took their first lead of the game, 4-3. Then, with Cole Sturgeon batting and the bases still loaded, a wild pitch brought home Hernandez from third base for a 5-3 Red Sox lead.

Syracuse (28-34) posted all three of its runs in the bottom of the first. Andrew Stevenson led off with a walk. Three batters later, Sierra doubled to right-center field, scoring Stevenson from first base for a 1-0 Chiefs lead. Decker followed with a single that brought home Sierra from second to push the Syracuse edge to 2-0. After Chris Dominguez was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second, Yadiel Hernandez singed to score Decker and make it a 3-0 Chiefs advantage.

The Red Sox scored their first two runs in the top of the fourth. Adam Lind launched a ball over the right-field wall for a home run that trimmed the Syracuse lead to two, 3-1. Mike Ohlman then doubled and De Jesus Jr. singled, placing runners on first and third with no outs. After Olt struck out, Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Ohlman to cut the Syracuse advantage to one, 3-2.

Those were the only two runs that Chiefs starting pitcher Tommy Milone allowed in six and two-thirds innings on the mound. Milone struck out four batters while not allowing a walk. The 31-year-old threw a season-high 103 pitches, including a season-high 71 strikes.

Syracuse and Pawtucket conclude their three-game series on Wednesday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium.
