RailRiders down Chiefs, 14-2

Syracuse, NY (June 15, 2018) - In front of nearly 6,000 fans at NBT Bank Stadium on Friday night, the Syracuse Chiefs lost the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 14-2. Moisés Sierra knocked in both Syracuse runs with a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Syracuse, NY (June 15, 2018) - In front of nearly 6,000 fans at NBT Bank Stadium on Friday night, the Syracuse Chiefs lost the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 14-2. Moisés Sierra knocked in both Syracuse runs with a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (32-34) scored its first runs in the top of the third inning. With one out, Mark Payton singled and Clint Frazier walked. Two batters later, Brandon Drury singled, scoring both Payton and Frazier for a 2-0 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lead. Then after a single, Billy McKinney doubled home Drury to make the score, 3-0.

The RailRiders added a run in the fourth. With two outs, Frazier homered over the right-field wall to make it a 4-0 RailRiders advantage.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre broke the game open in the fifth. Ryan McBroom led off the frame with a homer to left-center field to extend the RailRiders lead to 5-0. Two batters later, Abiatal Avelino walked and Bruce Caldwell singled, placing runners on first and third base. After a Kyle Higashioka strikeout, Mark Payton crushed a pitch to right-center field to make it an 8-0 ballgame.

The RailRiders continued the scoring barrage in the sixth. With one out, Drury double. McBroom followed with a single that brought home Drury for a 9-0 RailRiders edge.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre added three runs in the eighth and a run in the ninth. In the eighth, McBroom doubled, scoring Wade from second and Drury from first for an eleven-run lead. McKinney then hit a two-run home run to right-center field to extend the RailRiders lead to 13-0. In the ninth, Payton homered for the second time in the game with a ball hit over the right-field wall to give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a 14-0 advantage.

Syracuse (28-37) scored its runs in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, pinch hitter Yadiel Hernandez singled. Sierra then crushed a ball to straightaway center field that cleared the fence for a two-run home run that trimmed the RailRiders lead to 14-2.

The Chiefs and RailRiders continue their four-game series with game three on Saturday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
