Eighth Inning Rally Carries Rainiers to Victory in Homestand Finale

Niese delivers six scoreless innings and Cooke collects multiple hits in Tacoma victory

Tacoma, WA - A wild pitch pushed across the go-ahead run for the Tacoma Rainiers in the bottom of the eighth inning on Monday before Jaycob Brugman provided an insurance run with a two-out double, propelling Tacoma past the Nashville Sounds for a 3-1 victory in the homestand fina.
Jon Niese went six innings of scoreless baseball for Tacoma (31-34) and struck out three Sounds (35-39) before right-hander David McKay took over on the mound in the seventh. The 24-year-old allowed one run and collected two strikeouts in 1 1/3 frames.
With the scoreboard at zeros, Billy Cooke secured the first run of the game when he doubled home Kelby Tomlinson in the bottom of the fifth.

After Nashville tied the game in the top half of the eighth, the Rainiers responded with their two runs which would prove to be the difference-maker. The victory marked Tacoma's seventh in their final turn at-bat this season and first since May 14.
Dan Altavilla (1-0) earned his first win by striking out two and gave up no runs across 2/3 of the eighth frame in his first relief appearance since being promoted back to Tacoma from Double-A Arkansas.
The Rainiers will take Tuesday off before starting a seven-game road trip as they head to San Antonio for a three-game series against the Missions, Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. First pitch will be at 5:05 pm PDT on Wednesday in Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium as Mike Wright (0-1, 3.60) takes the mound for Tacoma.
